The short version: SwiftBuddy is a technology platform; the payment services behind it come from licensed partners. Keep your PIN and codes to yourself, check details before you pay, and only pay requests from people you know.
If a payment fails, you get your money back. If something goes wrong, tell us and we'll put it right.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Revamped Swiftbuddy Technology Limited (“SwiftBuddy”, “we”, “us”), a company incorporated in Nigeria with its office in Lagos State. They apply when you use the SwiftBuddy app, the website at swiftbuddy.africa and our related services.
By creating an account or using SwiftBuddy, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use SwiftBuddy.
2. Who can use SwiftBuddy
- You must be at least 18 years old. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up.
- You must have a Nigerian phone number you control, and give us true and complete information about yourself.
- You may have one personal account, used only by you and only for yourself, not on behalf of a business or anyone else.
- You must not be barred from receiving financial services under Nigerian law.
3. What SwiftBuddy is
SwiftBuddy is a technology platform that lets you hold money in a wallet, pay bills, send money to other SwiftBuddy users, gift and request payments, schedule payments and withdraw to your bank account.
The payment services behind SwiftBuddy are provided by licensed partners: Monnify (Moniepoint) for wallet funding, your dedicated bank account, withdrawals and identity checks, and Interswitch for bill payments. Money you add to SwiftBuddy is held in accounts with our partner financial institutions.
SwiftBuddy is not a bank. Your wallet balance is not a bank deposit and doesn't earn interest.
4. Your account and keeping it safe
- Keep your password, transaction PIN and any codes we send you private. SwiftBuddy will never ask you for them.
- Don't let anyone else use your account or your phone to make payments.
- Tell us straight away if your phone is lost or stolen, or if you think someone else has accessed your account. We'll restrict the account to protect your money.
- You're responsible for payments made with your PIN until you tell us your account may be compromised, unless the loss was caused by our mistake or a failure of our systems.
5. Account tiers and limits
In line with the Central Bank of Nigeria's tiered know-your-customer rules, your limits depend on how much of your identity you've verified. The current limits are:
| Tier | What you provide | Maximum balance | Per transaction | Withdrawals per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Name, phone number, date of birth | ₦300,000 | ₦50,000 | ₦50,000 |
| Tier 2 | Tier 1, plus BVN and a valid ID | ₦500,000 | ₦200,000 | ₦500,000 |
| Tier 3 | Tier 2, plus NIN and proof of address | No limit | No limit | ₦5,000,000 |
The app always shows your current limits. We may change them to meet regulatory requirements or manage risk, and we'll tell you before a change takes effect unless the law requires it immediately.
If money you receive takes your balance over your tier's limit, it will still reach your wallet, but we may ask you to verify more of your identity before you can use it.
6. Adding money
- You can add money by bank transfer to your dedicated SwiftBuddy account number, or by card through Monnify's secure checkout. SwiftBuddy never sees your full card number.
- Money is credited once our partner confirms it has been received. This is usually instant, but bank delays can happen.
- Any fee is shown before you confirm.
7. Paying bills
- Check the phone number, meter number, smartcard number or betting ID before you pay. Payments sent to the wrong number can't always be recovered, though we'll help you try.
- Services are delivered by the biller (for example the network, electricity distribution company, cable TV provider or betting company). We're responsible for passing your payment on correctly; the biller is responsible for the service itself.
- If a biller doesn't confirm a payment, we refund the full amount to your wallet. Sometimes a biller takes time to confirm. While we wait, the money is held, not lost, and we keep checking until there's a final answer.
- Electricity tokens are shown on your receipt and emailed to you. Keep them private: anyone with a token can load it onto that meter.
- Betting wallet top-ups are only for people aged 18 and over. Please gamble responsibly.
8. Transfers, requests and gifts
- Transfers to other SwiftBuddy users arrive instantly and can't be reversed once sent. Check who you're paying first.
- Only pay requests from people you know. SwiftBuddy will never ask you to pay a request to unlock, verify or upgrade your account.
- When you gift a buddy's bill, you see a nickname and a masked number, never their full account or meter number, and they see that the gift came from you.
- Notes you add to transfers, requests and gifts are seen by the other person. Keep them respectful.
9. Withdrawals
- You can only withdraw to a bank account in your own name. We check the name with your bank before paying out.
- The minimum withdrawal is ₦100. The first withdrawal on a new account may be held for up to 24 hours to protect against fraud.
- Banks usually credit within minutes. If a bank rejects or returns a withdrawal, we put the full amount, including any fee, back in your wallet.
10. Scheduled payments
If you set up a scheduled payment, we'll make it on the date you choose if your wallet has enough money. If it doesn't, we skip that payment, don't charge you, and let you know. We'll remind you beforehand when your balance looks too low. You can pause or cancel a schedule at any time in the app.
11. Fees
Any fee for a transaction is shown in the app before you confirm it. Most SwiftBuddy features are currently free. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice before introducing or increasing a fee, and you can close your account without charge before the change takes effect.
12. Rewards and referrals
- You earn loyalty points when people join with your referral code and when they first fund their wallet.
- Points have no cash value unless we say otherwise in the app, and can't be transferred or sold.
- We may change or end the rewards programme. We'll tell you in advance, and points you've already earned will be honoured under the rules that applied when you earned them.
- Points earned through fake accounts, self-referrals or other abuse will be removed.
13. Problems, disputes and mistakes
- If something looks wrong, report it from the transaction's receipt in the app, or contact support, ideally within 30 days. We'll investigate and update you, usually within 2 working days.
- If we owe you money, we'll credit your wallet. Every manual credit or debit is approved by two members of our staff, and you'll get a receipt for it.
- If money reaches your wallet by mistake, for example through a system error or a duplicate payment, we may reverse it. We'll tell you when we do and why.
If you're not satisfied with how we've handled a complaint, you can contact the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, or the Central Bank of Nigeria's consumer protection department about the payment services provided by our licensed partners.
14. Restricting or closing accounts
We may restrict your account if we need to check activity, verify your identity, protect you or others from fraud, or comply with the law or a lawful request. While an account is restricted you can still sign in and receive money, but you can't send, pay or withdraw. We'll tell you, and lift the restriction as soon as we can, unless the law prevents us from saying more.
We may close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, with notice unless the law or the risk of harm means we can't give it. Any money that is lawfully yours will be paid out to a bank account in your name.
You can close your account at any time in the app under Profile → Delete Account. Your wallet needs to be empty and no payments can be in progress, so withdraw or spend your balance first; if it's below the ₦100 minimum withdrawal, support will help. Scheduled payments and open requests are cancelled, and unused loyalty points are lost. We'll keep records we're required to keep by law, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
15. What you must not do
- Use SwiftBuddy for fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing or any other illegal purpose.
- Open an account in someone else's name, give false information, or use someone else's BVN, NIN or bank account.
- Trick other users into sending money, or pretend to be SwiftBuddy or its staff.
- Interfere with, copy, reverse-engineer or overload the app or our systems.
- Use the service to harass or harm anyone.
16. Messages from us
We'll send you messages about your account and money, such as receipts, tokens, security alerts and codes, by app notification, email and SMS. These are part of the service and can't be turned off. You can turn off marketing messages and optional alerts in the app under Profile → Notifications.
17. Our app and brand
The SwiftBuddy app, website, name, logo and content belong to Revamped Swiftbuddy Technology Limited. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app for as long as you have an account and follow these terms.
18. Our responsibility to you
We'll provide SwiftBuddy with reasonable care and skill. If something goes wrong because of our mistake, we'll put it right, including refunding money you lost as a result.
We're not responsible for:
- losses caused by you sharing your password, PIN or codes, or not telling us when your phone or account is compromised;
- the services billers provide once your payment has reached them;
- delays or outages caused by banks, billers, networks or other events outside our reasonable control; or
- indirect losses, such as lost profits or opportunities, that weren't a foreseeable result of our mistake.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Nigerian consumer protection law, or our responsibility for fraud or for anything that can't be limited by law.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as our services or the law change. We'll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before an important change takes effect, unless it's needed sooner to meet a legal requirement or protect accounts. If you don't agree, you can close your account before the change. If you keep using SwiftBuddy after that, the new terms apply.
20. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If you have a complaint, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If we can't, either of us may refer the dispute to mediation, or to the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria.
